Artist History
Hailing from North Philadelphia, the hip-hop duo Chucky Park and Boo Riley linked together in the late 1990's to form the group SHANK BROVAZ. Influenced by groups such as the Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, and M.O.P., the Shank Brovaz have gone on a quest to recapture hip-hop in its truest form. C. Park and Boo Riley have concluded that materialism and Pop/R&B influences have transformed the hip-hop genre away from its history of street tale expression. In early 2003, the Shank Brovaz linked with producer/manager JayWhizKid (Jeffrey N. Carroll) to produce a demo that will allow them to break into the mold in an attempt to establish themselves as hip-hop artists. The product: a full length 12-cut CD that has accomplished a trip back to hip-hop's "golden age." Chucky Park and Boo Riley's work ethic and versatility as artists have allowed them to craft rhyme tales that express a variety of life scenes from honest street tales "Hoodlum", a retrospective song "Remember", their feelings toward the opposite sex "Thought You Loved Me", and even a fun (albeit rugged) party song "Keep It Movin." Their versatility to write on a variety of subject matters while not straying away from their true, sincere rugged image makes them unique. It is on songs such as "It's Yo Life" and "The Ending" that truly show their ability as MC's. It is imperative that hip-hop artists possess several elements besides their ability to write rhymes. This would include a captivating voice, stage presence, and work ethic. There are few artists that have all of these elements, but the Shank Brovaz possess all of these qualities. Their chemistry on a song is second to none. Chucky Park provides a gruff voice accompanied by a sharp delivery and convincing lyrics. Boo Riley is a witty mind that is grimy, yet comedic and clever with his style. I thank you for taking the time to absorb the Shank Brovaz vision. |
