Artist description
From a low key coffeehouse to a bar or nightclub, there’s no venue where this band from Virginia Beach can’t fit in. What started from a few friends sitting around playing their favorite songs has become a finely tuned acoustic rock band. Building on a foundation of the pure sound of a singer-songwriter, Portrait of Another’s unique instrumentation adds depth and energy to every song. Alex Mejias and Ross Byrd anchor each song with rich guitar and keys, Jonathan Byrne’s violin and mandolin playing weaves intricate countermelodies, and Blake Dozier’s djembe lays down the perfect groove to complete their multi-textured sound. Newcomers to the band include Jim Barredo on the drums and Nick Lyndon on bass. No matter the setting, Portrait can tailor its sound to match. Without skipping a beat Portrait can break down to an intimate acoustic duo or quartet. With lots of experience in intimate settings, Portrait has learned how to draw a crowd into their music. With the addition of drums and bass, Portrait has learned how to keep a crowd moving. Portrait’s catchy melodies and sharp dynamics ignite the crowd and electrify the room. Whether you’re looking for a great opener or a seasoned cover band, Portrait is the band for the job. While capturing the essence of crowd favorites, Portrait puts its own touch into a diverse selection of covers from such artists as Marc Cohn, Duncan Sheik, and the Indigo Girls to Guster, the Dave Matthews Band, and Jars of Clay to Seal, U2, and the Counting Crows. At the same time, Portrait has created its own original sound, drawing on its eclectic set of musical influences. They are currently in the midst of their debut recording which is scheduled to be released this fall.
