Artist description
Vibrant yet sultry with a voluminously energizing powerhouse of a voice, new singing sensation Zion mixes the smooth, sassy sounds of contemporary, Urban R&B with a dash of Neo-Hip-Pop, embodying a style that’s all her own.
She is one of those extraordinary artists that effortlessly stimulate sensual, soulful and raw emotions using just her vocal instrument, a voice that is not only heard but also felt. In other words, she leaves a long-lasting impression on your soul.
She wraps her seductive, magical voice and polished rhythmic sounds around personalized confessions like the warmth of a passionate embrace. Her music is an organic experience- a hybrid collection of up-tempo pop jams and fluid slow grooves that artistically join her sleek voice with intoxicating melodies. Her self-titled debut album, ZION is a wholehearted artful expression of 12 pleasurable and sexy cuts, which prove that she’s already a star that shines brightly. And it’s only a matter of time before the planet is cognizant that the spotlight belongs to Zion.
Although this Miami, FL native and current California resident is dripping with exotic beauty, her vibe is colored with her own unique persona that exudes both confidence and humbleness. And underneath her delicate exterior lies a passionate and profound essence. “I’m easy-going, love to laugh, extremely kind-hearted, very sensitive, very spiritual, caring and lots of fun. I even have a comical side, so I might even tell you a joke or two.â€
Her voice is alluring and controlled, yet refreshingly sprinkled with a pinch of blues, funk and soul. The first single, “Blowin’Me Up (Callin’ Me),†pairs the rawness of Hip-Hop with the slickness of Pop. The arrangement of the track is exceptionally appealing with unobtrusive bass beats and exquisite instrumental detail. “I have a different vibe and energy, as well as different sound and look. I like to feel my audience and for them to feel me, so people can expect that kind of energy. They can expect to feel good after experiencing me; whether it be, seen, heard, felt, or a combination thereof.â€
Zion, whose name is referenced to a number of things, which include the holy city of David, the holy mountain and the daughter of the people, has a childlike innocence and charm. She began singing and performing as a young girl in talent shows that she and her seven siblings would produce and star in for the community. “My mother used to say I was always on stage.†Being on a platform is just second nature for Zion, who grew up participating in a string of beauty pageants including the Miss Black Universe in Southern California. In fact, it was the combination of talent and good looks she exemplified while on stage at the Miss Black Universe pageant that jump started her music career. “A Japanese business owner approached me about doing an engagement at his establishment in Japan. I performed American top-forty music and the rest, as they say, is history.†Over a number of years, Zion has studied with a few vocal coaches, who include the vocal coach to the stars, Seth Riggs and his associate, Andrew Boettner. Some of Zion’s earlier influences, which you can hear in her music, include outstanding chart-toppers such as Mariah Carey (“Because of the flawless way she moves between her registersâ€), Patti Labelle (“She really goes after a song when performingâ€), Toni Braxton (“Her rich, sultry low tones are amazingâ€) and Whitney Houston (“Because of the purity and the power of her soundâ€).
ZION resonates with the artist’s diverse sound. The Neo-Soul “Be Your Baby†is an acoustic-tinged slow jam about love and relationships, while “Would You Love Me,†a Latin-flavored masterpiece provides dreamy vocals and an eccentric, spicy guitar solo. On the throbbing “Give It To Me,†Zion plays with this dichotomy of nice girl versus nasty vamp, which exhibits her multifaceted disposition. In addition to attending dance classes to perfect her sizzling dance moves and having studied acting with the Orange County Black Actors Theatre, the perfectly polished young diva, who also projects fabulous showmanship, found time to pen two tracks, “I’m Sorry†and “Fever.†“I listened to the music tracks and decided what mood each track put me in. Then I thought of a catchy way to describe that mood. After perfecting the hooks, I then filled in the verses; describing, enlightening, and expanding on those premises.†Although this self-described “health enthusiast†didn’t produce on this album, she looks forward to putting her piano, drum, tambourine and conga skills to the test on her next project.
The album is a heady blend of infectious dance grooves and Jazzy R&B, Pop-infused melodies that harmonize brilliantly with her slinky smooth and crisp empowering anthems. With her lighthearted and spiritual nature, Zion is destined for fame. “My definition of success is keeping the faith through all the challenges, hurdles, setbacks, pitfalls and curveballs you encounter until what you are having faith for materializes.†And thanks to the Creator, Zion remains steadfast.
