Songs for Peace ...is a personal commitment to do what I can to defy the war-machine.
I met Mother Teresa a year before she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the
Habitat Peace Conference in Vancouver 1978
She was on the ground picking up pieces of broken beer bottles out of the dust and putting
them in a plastic drink container. I knelt down & said “Mother Teresa ...do you know there are a
lot of people waiting to see you? “ (She was scheduled to give a speech to about 3,000 people)
she said “ Yes I know but there are barefoot people walking here ;
if I don’t pick up the sharp glass who will? ...will you?
I said “Yes I will pick up the glass “ (I took the container from her and began to sift through the dust)
She went & gave her speech and I continued to pick up pieces of broken beer bottles
...I missed her speech but she made her point.
On January 19, 2003 after viewing a film on The Hidden Wars of Iraq
I announced to the room full of people that I was giving up my day job to work for Peace.
The day job I had at the time was as a Dinning Room/Piano-Bar Entertainer. The day job
I have now is as a writer of Peace Songs. I’m discovering a sense of comfort because
I’m doing what I can to defy the war-machine & bidding others to do the same.
SOCAN ,Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers has kept me posted on
over 2 dozen songs I have published since 1978. The song I am proudest of is a
song protesting the proposed diversion of the Kootenay river , Save the Kootenays
was played in full rotation on all the local radio stations and became a powerful
component in a protest that stopped the diversion

Songs for Peace ...is a personal commitment to do what I can to defy the war-machine.
I met Mother Teresa a year before she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the
Habitat Peace Conference in Vancouver 1978
She was on the ground picking up pieces of broken beer bottles out of the dust and putting
them in a plastic drink container. I knelt down & said “Mother Teresa ...do you know there are a
lot of people waiting to see you? “ (She was scheduled to give a speech to about 3,000 people)
she said “ Yes I know but there are barefoot people walking here ;
if I don’t pick up the sharp glass who will? ...will you?
I said “Yes I will pick up the glass “ (I took the container from her and began to sift through the dust)
She went & gave her speech and I continued to pick up pieces of broken beer bottles
...I missed her speech but she made her point.
