Artist description
Danny Bakan (pronounced Back - in) is a master at combining the richness of tradition with the innovation of individuality.
With solid roots in the traditional North American repertoire, a passionate love of music and charismatic natural presence, Danny delivers songs that speak to a love of life in all its grand stupidity; songs that are funny, smart and touching.
As well as being a songster and a wordsmith, Danny breathes new life into the art of playing clawhammer style banjo. He seamlessly marries traditional "frailing" techniques with rock/pop aesthetics to pay homage to and transcend genre.
The sound of Appalachia rhythms grounds Bakan's music in an irresistable fusion of sound, and his lyrics show off some of the finest examples of contemporary songwriting thats been heard in a long time.
"Look at Danny Bakan's songs and you'll get a clue just how wide ranging he is. There's one about a rat named Patsy Cline and another about washing his laundry on Saturday night. Somehow its not surprizing to learn that he is a devotee of the clawhammer banjo and wrote his masters thesis on holistic and aesthetic paradigms in education..."
- Greg Burliuk, Kingston Whig Standard
