Artist description
Suffer and Struggle. Two words that can mean the building of a person’s character or destruction of person’s existence. These are also two words that describe the life and musical careers of Mastamynde and Trigga Trife, two emcees that let the experience of young black men struggling with life in a unequal American society come to life in their music and live performances. The frustration of being dedicated to Hip Hop in a city that is often overlooked, musically, also comes out in Suffer and Struggle’s highly energetic stage show.
In 2000, Mastamynde and Trigga Trife, both producing, rhyming, and promoting for underground hip hop record label Planet 11, joined forces to create Suffer and Struggle after discovering their creative similarities and capability to collaborate on crowd rocking hooks at the spur of the moment.
Mastamynde, once described by Listen.com as a “mic toting, lyrical Samuri”, heads up the production for Suffer and Struggle. Mastamynde, on the underground level, has worked with Tekitha (Wu-Tang), Shawnna (Disturbing Tha Peace/ Def Jam South), and Twista (Atlantic). Mastamynde adds precise production and poetic depth to Suffer and Struggle.
Trigga Trife, the “Wingless Angel with Half a Halo”, adds street lyricism, spontaneous artistic creativity and the overall energy to Suffer and Struggle. First hooking up with Planet 11 in 1995, Trigga Trife has grown into an intelligent professional emcee through years of live performances.
The subject matter of Suffer and Struggle’s songs range from young black men understanding their purpose in today’s society, as heard on “The Understanding” and “Lead The Flock”, to the art of Mcing and crowd rocking, as heard on “Knod Ya Head” and “1 to the 2”, to their own personal experiences with life and family, as heard on “Doin’ Life”.
In a time when Hip Hop is cluttered with “champaign wishes and caviar dreams”, Suffer and Struggle add a much needed breath of fresh air from the past when Hip Hop was all about uplifting the community while you rock the show.
