Artist History
Tara Gibson and Glenn McMullen formed 60-Watt Vamp in early 2002, after their respective bands had parted ways. Tara had previously shared the spotlight with former Arlibido frontman Tim Macneil in the popular funk/alt/rock band Vertigo, before calling it quits and flying off to some remote African jungle where she discovered both a higher purpose and a deeper appreciation for indoor plumbing. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Glenn, former guitar guru for the now defunct alt/rock band Kudzu, who just happened to be engineering and co-producing the hugely popular indie debut from Arlibido (see above) had developed a serious case of needtorockoutnowscleorosis. This condition has left him with the uncontrollable urge to leap repeatedly into the air while flailing at his guitar like a nudist at a bee keeper convention. When Tara returned to civilization, she contacted Glenn and suggested a collaboration, needless to say he “leapt” at the chance (see above). This was the beginning of what would become 60-Watt Vamp. Finding the right rhythm section was crucial to the development of the powerful sound that both Tara and Glenn envisioned, and besides, someone had to carry the gear! Long-time acquaintance and local bass slut Kirk Hazel was enticed by the blend of well crafted lyrics and melodic hooks which made this group stand out from the crowd, and it sure beat the hell out of playing yet one more bastardized version of Sweet Home Alabama for a bunch of good ol’ boys down at the local legion. Rounding out the lineup is ex Arlibido drummer DJ Timmons as the special guest drummer (small world huh?). DJ was an obvious choice, intense, tight grooves and a natural ability to create the perfect feel for the song was key. Plus he has one of those cool letter only names, and every band needs at least one! |
