Artist History
The conception of AHM begins with two brothers: Chris and Dave Tiritili. After having practiced together for practically their entire lives, and realizing the chemistry and potential in the music they created, the brothers finally decided to form a band in the winter of 2002. Dave would reside behind the drum kit, and Chris would take on vocal as well as guitar duties. To fill the bass void, Chris called up a friend from high school who he knew shared the same musical interests and passions. “I remember getting a call one day about a week before I went on winter break. Chris told me he was starting a band with his brother, and wanted me to play bass. No persuasion was necessary. I was sold,” recalls Chris Pagnucci (aka Nooch). The months that followed were filled with blistering practices and intense song writing. The trio even played a small set in the month of March to test the waters with their new music. Chris Tiritili explains, “The show went pretty well and people seemed to have accepted us, but it was obvious that there was an element missing.” That element, the band soon discovered, was the presence of a second guitarist. The three decided on Dave Schloss, formerly of Avert 13, to take on the position. “We only jammed one song, and I already knew that this was what we were missing. Dave was able to add a new dimension to our music.” comments Chris. With the new line-up, and a handful of songs under their belt, the four immediately went into the studio in April to record. With the assistance Rueben Baird (Southtown Underground bassist) behind the mixing board, A Hybrid Moment produced a 5 song self-titled EP of which they feel is an excellent representation of the range of sounds they are capable of. A month after recording the CD, Chris decided that his guitar playing was substantially interfering with his vocal potential in live settings, so the four adopted a fifth member, Julien Vena, to take on Chris’ guitar responsibilities. Finally, with their line-up secure, A Hybrid Moment felt they were prepared to boldly enter Chicago’s scene, and hopefully leave an impression with their unique blend of music. Chris confirms “We definitely have a lot of work cut out for us, but we’re all very driven so I’m not overly concerned. We’re going to push this band with every ounce our heart. We wouldn’t have it any other way.” |
