Artist History
Arvinger was formed in 2001 when Djerv asked former bandmate Hauk if he was interested
in doing some black metal songs. Hauk had for a long time been working on
his speed/thrash metal stuff, but agreed to write some black metal as well.
Djerv started working on the lyrics while Hauk started to write the songs.
A few months later they recorded 5 songs in their own studio. A friend of Djerv helped
them out with the keyboard parts. Then they planned to release an EP, but when the songs were
mixed down they were not satisfied whith the result. There would go months before Hauk started
writing more Arvinger songs. But almost a year later he wrote and recorded
the track, "Mørkets Dal". But also this time nothing happened after the recording.
During the summer of 2002 Hauk decided to let go of the songs they had recorded.
He made a simple Arvinger site and uploaded 5 songs to a mp3 site.
Just a few days later they started to recieve great feedback. Alot of people dowloaded
their songs and they quickly became the most downloaded metal band on the site. They then
decieded to try again and write some more songs. Hauk then wrote 3 new songs, and this time
playing the keyboard himself. Djerv also participated in the songwriting this time.
Alot of people had requested a cd or demo from the band, so they decided to release all
their material on an album called, "Helgards Fall".......

ARVINGER is a two-piece black metal project from Norway, the Land of Black Metal. Their music sounds to me more like, say, viking black metal than typical satanic one because of its dramatic symphonic arrangement along with nordic folk melody. But elemets of "bravery" is not emphasized here so much. The cream of their music is the dynamic contrast between beauty and ugliness; fast and slow; sane and insane. Typical trill picking and violent blast beats are also to be heard, but these ideas are not so revolutional in this genre anymore unless they are used in extreme way, but you can't do without anyway... Main composer Hauk seems to be a thrash metal fan and he offers some good thrashy riffs on a few songs. "Fanget Av Vinden" has its presence through whole album. Good one, I like it. Last but not least, the singer Djerv's vocal sounds like scream of a 120-year-old evil woman, which terrified me quite a lot. It is insane and I mean it! Dark cold weird world will welcome you gently... here you are. (Reviewed by Masa) |
