    Artist History
It was 1994 when ex-Seance guitarist Patrik Jensen approached Paul 'Typhon' Thind of NECROPOLIS RECORDS with a suggestion to sign Satanic Slaughter. They were a band from his home town, Linköping, who, even when formed in 1985, never got a record deal. Paul approved and the word was given to the original members to team up for the first time in many years to record an album. Satanic Slaughter has had many members through the years (21 to be exact). Satanic Slaughter was the breeding ground for thrash/death in Linköping back then. The only member to stick to the band was Ztephan Dark (guit.). Other original line-up members to join were; Tony (guit.) and Micke (dr.) of Séance (who left Satanic Slaughter in -86 to form Total Death with, among others, Bino -later bass player in Séance). When none of the other members were still musically active, Ztephan asked Jensen (guit.) and Richard (bass). The latter played at that time with Ztephan in a death metal band called Morgue. Later, Richard became Bino's replacemant in Séance, when he left in the summer of -95. So, now Satanic Slaughter had three original members from -85 and two new ones. Ztephan wanted to try his vocal ability, so therefore it was decided that Tony and Jensen would do the guitars and Ztephan would handle the vocals. Satanic Slaughter entered Unisound studios in June -95, were it was discovered that Ztephan Dark couldn't sing! This was never noticed at rehearsals, where Ztephan prefered to sit quiet and write lyrics, instead of actually rehearsing. This resulted in that Tony did all the vocals. Of course, this wasn't approved by Ztephan. He was the founding member and he was the only one to not be on the album. Plus the fact that Jensen, who has a more thrashier approach to music, had written most of the music, didn't help at all. Ztephan wanted the band to be a "normal" black metal band. When Satanic Slaughter were only two weeks away from recording their second album,"Witchburner", a mini-cd with four covers and three original tracks, Ztephan notifies the band that they are not fired, but he that he was leaving the band and taking the name with him to recruit new members. The four remaining musicians decided that they enjoyed the music too much to quit, so therefore a new name was taken, Witchery (a name Séance were thinking of using before "Séance" was chosen back in 1990). Witchery went ahead and recorded "Witchburner" at Andy LaRocque's studio "Los Angered" April -96 as a four piece band; Toxine-voc, Jensen-guit, Richard dropped the bass in favour for the guitar, and Mique on drums. Jensen and Richard shared the bass efforts during the recording. Witchery realized that releasing a mini-cd with four cover tracks on it as a first product from a band seems a bit strange. So, "Witchburner" was put on hold until a full-length album was recorded and released. Witchery also needed a new bass player. Jensen met Sharlee D'Angelo early winter -97 at a party in Gothenburg (where he had moved in Dec. -95 to form The Haunted). Jensen approached Sharlee with an offer to join the band and he accepted, eventhough he said he had a very tight time schedule ahead, with the recording of the Mercyful Fate album "Dead again". After Jensen completed recording The Haunted debut album on the 22nd of Dec. -97, he went to Linköping to write the remaining 5 songs for Witchery's upcoming "Restless and Dead" album. When the songs were written, and as well rehearsed at time permitted, Jensen went back to Gothenburg to get Sharlee. Sharlee had, in his turn, just gotten home from the US after completing "Dead again". They both went back to Linköping on the 2nd of Jan. -98 and, after just one night of rehearsal, Witchery entered the Blue Hill studios, Linköping, on Januari 3rd for a week of recording. The band was so pleased with how "Restless and Dead" turned out, that they wanted to record as much as possible before they had to concentrate on their main bands (The Haunted, Mercyful Fate and Seance) for tours, albums etc. Plans were made to record a third album, called "Dead, hot and ready". Everything went well and the band entered once again Blue Hill studios to record another full-length album at the beginning of July -98. "Dead, Hot, and Ready" was just mixed at the Oral Majority Recording Studios in Gothenburg. It will be released in September of this year. The band currently have another 11 new songs written (as of March 25th, 1999) and hope to record two albums in a row during 1999. There are plans also to play the WACKEN Festival and a possible Milwaukee Metalfest appearance will add to this bands' phenomenol growth. WITCHERY is here... The band has also plans on doing a live recording (worktitle; "On a broomstick to Hell") sometime in the near future!
