Artist description
WABI "is to go beyond the form, the surface, the unnecessary and attain oneness with that which lies at the center of our activities, i.e., to eat when eating, to sleep when sleeping. This is the quintessential experience of WABI."Referred to affectionately as "eclectic pop", WABI is the reflection of recording artist Amy Seidman's eclectic talents, with the influences of co-producer and performer L. Henry Sarmiento, II. WABI brings an unlikely marriage between acoustic folk and urban pop derived from a pure unadulterated expression of song writing. Blended with funky jazz, deep lyrics and progressive beats, Amy's range of vocals compliments this salad of sound with twists of the gritty low end all the way to alto soprano.WABI is based in the LA area, plays locally, and recently performed for 2 independent radio stations at Burning Man '99. Stay tuned for a collaborative techno dance dub -- soon to be launched on MP3! (* ~ Zen description found in "Sabi, WABI and the Dessert" by Joe Kozono) |

Artist History
Sometimes we lose our way. Sometimes it takes us a few moments to remember who we are. Eventually, we find our way home . . . Blue Sky is the epitaph of such experiences. From heartbreak to enlightenment, the songs within reflect the process of coming full circle and hitting stride. As an artist with fingers in many pies, Amy Seidman found it impossible to make the almighty buck and pursue creative endeavors simultaneously. During this time, she got involved in multimedia arts. Simultaneously, she used music to release her inherent need to create -- that nagging feeling within to do something more. Evenings spent plucking away by candlelight were the catalyst for the words and songs that speak of her experiences. After a few years of this, she became involved in a start up company. Her friend and technologist Steven "Dax" Lee introduced her to LHS (L. Henry Sarmiento, II) and manager Herbie Herbert to do some web design. Through a roundabout path Amy's buckling down eventually formed WABI and enabled her to record this CD. Players from many different cultures participated in WABI recordings found on "Blue Sky", "Non-Sequitur" dub mixes, and the 2 song collection "Black Crow". Singer/songwriter Amy Seidman was born in NYC, and currently lives in LA. Recordings were made in San Francisco at the world famous SyKlopps Studios with Columbian/NY Producer and Bass Player L. Henry Sarmiento, II, Nigerian drummer Manas Itene (fondly known as Manas The Metronome for his funky and staggeringly on time beats), along with Steven Hoffman, a brilliant keyboard player. These musicians met in Santa Cruz many eons ago as a tight group of players and form the core recording artists on W A B I's "Blue Sky", "Non Sequitur", and "Black Crow".Half a dozen or so other musicians performed on these tracks including bass player Mark Meadow, (musical director for Meredith Brooks, player for Tommy Henriksen, Brian Auger, Dweezle Zappa etc.) guitarists Ralph Woodson, (SyKlopps Blues Band), and Carl Harvey (Toots and the Maytals), as well as Charles McNeally on Sax, Joonbug Maloney on guitar and Liz Cross on harmonies. "The experiences that ensued, such as collaborating with LHS and the other musicians, were some of the finest moments in my life. For this I am truly grateful. Know that what your are hearing is the path we all took for bread and butter that eventually brought us home". |
