Artist History
The origins of the band stem from a songwriting partnership between GaryLooker (singer) and Jon Budworth (Lead Guitar). They soon decided to form aband to showcase their material and enrolled Chris Jamson (bass) and AndyLyth (drums) in 1997. This led to the first of their three CD's beingproduced. Breaking into the Manchester scene at that time proved difficult, however the band staged a gig in London and numerious gigs around the NW.1998 brought their second CD and their profile began to increase withairplay on BBC Radio and Manchester Live TV, backed up by their imaginative 'TruckStop tour' when they hired a lorry to bring the City Centre to a standstillwith three impromptu performances. This led to a support spot with Audiowebat Lancaster University. The profile of the band continued to rise in 1999,a publishing contract from USA was declined, the band supported Bellatrix atThe Roadhouse and the Third, critically acclaimed, CD was released. Gigscontinued to be based around the Manchester/ Liverpool area, in fact SW werethe very last band to play at Manchesters famous Boardwalk. Radio playcontinued on local BBC along with a live 'session' spot, commercial radioplay began with an interview on Tower FM and an accoustic spot on Space FM.The band where invited to take part in the 'unsigned, unheard' showcase at the prestigeous InThe City International Music Convention, this has led to the band being booked for two dates on a TommyHilfigger product launch (London/Birmingham). Pick of the gigs includes aTower FM showcase in Bolton's Albert Halls and Strange Weather feature on a'Raw Fish' supported CD 'Northern Sounds' for distribution at Midem 2000. |

Press Reviews
City Life, July 99"Another nifty little three track single from this promising Wigan Band, andone that shows them at their most diversely compelling. There's the 60ftDollesque stomper 'comes in waves', the sumptuous REM flavoured melancholiaof the title track, plus the impeccable psychedelic guitar sound of'inflatable stars'. There's been a decent crop of Wigan bands in recentmonths, and this lot are certainly one of the best. Well worth checking outlive too, when you get the chance.." |
