Artist History
The squadron was formed in '97 by a couple of dudes who enjoyed making their own music, but enjoyed each others' individual talents as well.Four of the band members played high school football together(well, very well),and when people saw them playing around Cincinnati the big doggs often heard comments like,"You guys are in a band!?Who'da thunk a bunch of jocks like you would be jumping around on a stage?"Thus the name,Hudafunkit. |

Press Reviews
Everybody's News, September 1998.City Beat, November, 1998.Eugene Spunkenthrice, Fantasy Homepage, October 1999.The Bruin Report, October 1999... Hudafunkit is the future of music...ok, maybe not, but they play a hell of a show and the mix of old school with new vibes will blow your ears off. Led by lead singer Brandon Guttman, a.k.a. BGUTT, the five musicians led the crowd through two sets with it all: old schools raps (you know the ones that you like to hear) all the way to their fresh-n’-new material that emphasizes lead guitarist Stan Hunting's entrancing licks, BGUTT's versatile voice, and DJ Strick9's (a.k.a. Bobby Bodnar) control over the turntable...he kicks out the mean scratches that set this band apart. We’re not talking weak-asz studio scratching, Strick9 is the real dilly. BGUTT and his boyz kick out mean Sublimesque grooves throughout the first set, interspersed with drunken comments from the crowd, and the occasional Beastie Boys favorite. The band attracts an incredible range of listeners as reflected in the crowd tonight - it seems like the blending of styles transcends the music. It's really rad man. The first set winds down with a few funked out reggae slams “Backlash” sticks out in my mind as I walk back to the bar for another cold one, but I was equally impressed with the freestyle raps and beats coming out of BGUTT and Strick9. The second set opens with an original, "One of These Kids", a song about what should be a high school outcast, but unfortunately is not in this crazy world. Although the energy is more channeled than bouncing off the walls, you can tell that the band has melded together in the relatively short time they have played together. They feed off each other and allow Hunting to come to the forefront when his guitar is the real voice of the song. The rest of the concert combined more original digs along with a couple of Pepper and Sublime covers. BGUTT even honored a few requests from the crowd by busting out some old school lyrics and even playing the "Humpty Dance". The most impressive originals were "Hip to It" and "Walking on My Way", a song that belongs on the airwaves. BGUTT's voice shines, as bass guitarist Roger Hornsby provides the smooth background. The solo by Stan is refreshing, and even Mark White's drum playing is impressive during this future hit. As I walk away from this concert, I wonder how long it will take for this band to churn out more songs that I can look for on the airwaves.. |
