Artist History
Francis was formed in summer of 1998 in Auburn AL. The original four members were together for about a year. The bass player (Nancy) moved out of town and quit the band, and the drummer (Doug) was planning to move out of town soon after (turns out he didn't) and also quit. This lineup recorded a five song EP. The band was inactive for about a year, then reformed as a three piece with new drummer John. This lineup played for about a year, then split in the summer of 2001. |

Press Reviews
"Francis generates songs and performances that just scream for a Merge record rep to show up and get all gooogly. It's indie rock to the bone. Speaking of screaming, Francis has started to add some vocals into their primarily instrumental mix. They do not scream, they're nice, pleasant, melodic. What Francis possess that many indie bands lack, or die trying to contrive, is a tension to their music. It's pleasant music, but it feels like they are about to scream, kick, or bite, but it just doesn't ever happen. It's from some weird subtlety in their style of play and writing." - Chet Weise, Express Magazine |
