Artist History
Band members Mark Flett, Watson Mailey and
Paul Sullivan have been making
music together since 1998. They have recently been joined by new member Tom Kitching.
Under the name
Keel Over they won the Best Music award at the
Buxton Festival Fringe in 1998, touring Germany
in the same year and the Czech Republic in 1999.
They played the infamous Roscoff St Patricks Day
Festival in 2000 and 2001, and have the
bite-marks to prove it. They survived to appear
at various UK clubs, pubs and festivals, and to
record a couple of long lost CDs. In 2000
Keel Over were chosen to represent Derbyshire folk
music at a BBC-sponsored Millenium gig. The show
was a triumph, and in true rock and roll style
the band folded soon
Mark and Paul also founded the ceilidh
band The Pre-Flight Czechs, who were active on
the lucrative weddings and functions circuit at
the back end of the last millennium. Watson did
a stint in the same band in their latter months,
having toured for many years as a solo performer.
The Watson & Co concerts in 2001 featured 30 musicians
(the Pre-Flights amongst them) and re-captured
the Fringes Best Music Award (above)
Watsons CV boasts several highs, including Derbys
Picnic in the Park (1995, with Hullaballoo), solo
performances at The Attic (Chesterfield) and
support slots with Jez Lowe and Serious Kitchen.
Steal The Recipe show no mercy with their barrage
of melody and vocal harmony, and audiences are
strongly advised to bring their dancing trousers.
Equally at home on the big stage or in a smokey
corner of the bar, the band is a firm believer
in the idea that if you know how to set a good
time to music, you are on to a winner.
