Rock 'n' Rolls of Film **
If you think commandeering three days of rock bands is hard, try putting together a band and film fest of even lesser-known names. Emily Davis, keyboardist for local frazzle rockers Necropolis, is giving it a go with the SIVAD Festival of Independent Films.
No, SIVAD is not a Swedish acronym for "Oh God, another film fest." It's "Davis" spelled backwards. Pretty humble intentions, thus. Davis thought it would be a gas to gather some friends' hobby flicks for a lil' showing, but word spread and submissions came flowing in. After some wheat/mostly chaff separating, the program consists of an hour-plus of short films from all over Ohio.
Having worked as a stage manager at MadLab, Davis figured it a natural location; then Lab leader Greg McGill suggested playing the films early, adding bands after, and doing it all as part of this weekend's fundraising events for the venerable, if vulnerable, downtown theater. And so it shall be, this Friday, April 25, for a $5 donation. Films roll around 8 p.m., bands rock 10-ish, including Necropolis, the ever-popular TBA, and Adam Smith, a Cincy street punk who strums acoustic renditions of '30s standards and '80s novelties.
