    Artist description
In June of 2002, sisters Casey and Kelly Erdmann performed an acoustic set of three original songs, and four cover songs. There to see them play were old friends and soon to be drummer Alby Rojas and his good friend Jeff Stevens. After the show, the four became reacquainted with each other, after many years. They all had much in common, and began seeing each other quite often. About three weeks after their reuniting, Alby introduced the sisters to his longtime friend, band-mate and guitarist, Bryan Usinger. They went back and forth playing their original material and new ideas. They quickly discovered their musical chemistry. Little did they know that that chemistry was about to unfold a friendship that would soon become a family. The group got together between work, high school and semesters at college and practiced every two to three weeks. All their hard work was debuted at an Erdmann family party in late August under the name “ELI,” which meant Long Island with an “E” to make it a word. The response was incredible and gave the new found band the confidence they needed to pursue things even further. The group began practicing more in drummer Alby Rojas’ garage and they began playing at local open mic nights. The group then began joining the sisters’ parents music group “The Gang” at places such as the Wantagh Inn and The Cherrywood Caf. By November, the group felt ready to record a demo. They booked time at Vudu Studio, located in Freeport, Long Island with guitarist Bryan Usinger’s long time friend and recording engineer Mike Watts. They began recording December 31, 2002, and with only two days at a time because they all basically had no money to spend. The next two days in the studio were booked for March, 2003. Luckily, on New Years Day, January of 2003, Stephen Young was introduced to the band by his good friend Deanna O’Hannlan. Now with five members, the group decided to change their name, thus “A Modest Five” was born. The new member changed the dynamic of the group and gave a new vigor and life to the band. After eight total days in the studio, the demo was completed. Released in June 2003 with only “a modest” five tracks. Selling hundreds of copies in one month just by playing at local open mic nights.
