Instead of meandering noise or moody soundscapes, the Focus' focus is on the inherent drama of sound and structure. On the band's current eight-song disc, the Rosario Focus craft a breathy flow that jaunts from punctuating, rhythmic Post Punk (à la Girls Against Boys) to more ambient drums-bass-guitar works, tossing in the occasional spoken word bit and chintzy drum machine trickle to keep the listener on their toes. The group also has a sparse yet impacting melodic bent that is instantly grabbing. Like the like-minded Aereogramme, The Rosario Focus doesn't condone the restrictive nature of genre classifications, and however punchy and driven the tracks, they always make them sound more like thoughtful "compositions" rather than just a bunch of "songs."
