Artist History
THE TRASHCAN FANTASY DANCEBAND???
No such actual thing. It’s just the name of the record.
Jon was responsible for:
Penning the songs
Pretending to be a singer
Playing about a dozen or so guitars
Putzing around w/ other sundry toys
Soon, though, Jon realized he’d need some actual talent to legitimize the whole affair. As such, he called upon:
Andrew Allen (A Band Called Delicious) – drums & percussion
Noah Levy (The Honeydogs) – drums
Dan Neale (Martin Zellar & The Hardways) – banjo & National slide guitar
The Sordid Past:
Jon has played guitar for Twin Cities artists Kristin Mooney, King Size, Patrik Tanner & the Faraway Men, Johnny Clueless, Bellaswan and Days of Four.

Group Members
THE PINKO PLAYBOYS?
Jon James & The Pinko Playboys have formed as part of James' effort to support the debut CD. Instead, they’ve wound up playing mostly a bunch of new material. Jon is just mercurial in that way. They can be succinctly characterized as follows:
Kris Hoover - guitars
Silken-maned lady killer with an oh-so boozy swagger in his giddy-up
Born-again agnostic
Creates a crash-car superstar heap of twisted noise
Played previously with Twin Cities faves Epic Hero
Pete Hennig - drums
Effortlessly marries Eurotrash Spaz with Free-form Jazz
Embodies the essence of lunacy with Keith Moon-like bombast
Despite a penchant for wielding his own “magic wand,” Pete is not related to Doug Henning
Pete’s dream band consists of himself on dueling banjos and Dave King (Happy Apple, 12 Rods) on drums.
Jon James – fill in the blank
Being a lazy-bones himself, Jon has decided to hang up his mad-fuzz guitar and strap on a bass. To whatever degree said instrument lacks either scope or breadth, Jon has compensated by applying a brilliant silver-sparkle lacquer. He can best be described as a shyboy megalomaniac.

Press Reviews
“Jon James is well acquainted with the highly unglamorous lifestyle of a striving, workaday rock band. He's done time in several such bands over the years, but on his new solo album he suspends his disillusionment with the business of making music and embraces the sort of far-out rock star fantasies only a starry-eyed teenager could take seriously … Peel It Off in particular is sweet and soaring and capable of standing up to repeat listening.” (Scott Hampton, www.splendidezine.com)
“…this little pop rock gem of an album is going to end up among my favorite discs of the year. To sum it up, the release is an ambitious effort to create a fantasy rock album – the type of thing most upstart rockers wouldn’t dare touch. But James dared and, most importantly succeeded in creating a jewel. From the catchy opener Turn it On / High on a Flashback to the hilarious closer Atom Bomb, James is untouchable.” (Karl Leslie, St. Cloud [MN] Times)
“There’s no doubt that there is being released a lot of really good independent music worldwide these days, but it doesn’t happen very often that a self-released album actually is chosen as the album of the month from the 50 or thereabout CDs reviewed in every issue in Past and Present Music. There might have been self-released albums that have deserved that honor in the past, but it hasn’t happened since we started choosing the album of the month. Until now, that is, as there’s a first time for everything. Jon James and his band are just so deliciously nice and appealing that it is almost entirely impossible not to like them … Track one, Turn It On / High On Flashback, is one of the best songs I’ve heard all year.” (Hans Jakup Eidisgard, Past & Present Music [Denmark], May 2003)
