Artist description
A finalist in the Lilith Fair Talent Search for New York City and in the 2001 Unisong Songwriting Contest, Relative Sight is an acoustic duo that combines the diverse talents of Heidi Palalay and Janet Taggart. The duo recently released their second CD, More Than One Life, which has been chosen by Performing Songwriter Magazine as one of the top DIY releases for the upcoming June, 2003 issue.
These two classically trained musicians met as roommates while attending Baltimore’s famed Peabody Conservatory of Music. On the one hand, Janet matches her enchanting vocals with vibrant and resonant cello performances. On the other hand, Heidi’s sweet harmonizing vocals are complemented by her smooth, liquid guitar style. When these two forces of nature converge, the result is Relative Sight. In addition to the cello and the guitar, their sound is punctuated by Heidi’s and Janet’s equally riveting virtuosity on the piano, and the sweet tones of Heidi’s oboe and English horn. Blending the technical, crystal clarity of their classical training with the immediacy and presence of the folk tradition, an evening with Relative Sight amounts to a nonstop flight through the highest levels of acoustic atmosphere.
While performing throughout the East Coast, Relative Sight has deve-loped an ever-growing fan base and shared the stage with many well known performers. Some of these which include Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, Greg Greenway, Ellis Paul, and Ferron. Reviewer Andy Stevens (Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin) picked their independently produced CD, General Housekeeping Tips, as one of the top CD releases for the year 2000. “Sometimes the smallest indie projects can end up sounding the richest and most professional.”

Relative Sight
More Than One Life
Produced by Relative Sight and Will Russell
The hushed and utterly beautiful music of Relative Sight is immediately intoxicating and winning. Consisting of guitarist Heidi Palalay and cellist Janet Taggart, both of whom share vocal duties, the duo plays some of the sweetest, most hypnotic music you’ll hear.
Whether it’s just the two of them quietly making their way through contemplative tunes like “Dark Ages” or if there’s a full band hammering through driving numbers like “Break the Cycle,” Taggart and Palalay bring sophistication and grace to the music. Other than their outstanding originals, particularly Taggart’s “Crumtown” and Palalay’s “Tell Me Rosa,” there are some well-chosen covers—the most notable one being a perfectly intimate take on Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love.”
“It’s just my observation that Janet and Heidi bring something to the singer-songwriter realm that I get to experience all too rarely. Their high level of discipline really shines through, and their performance moved me on so many levels. It’s just great to hear music that’s so well conceived and articulated.”
Dave Carter
“Relative Sight is an acoustic duo that has the ability to rejuvenate the stagnant folk pop genre. Janet Taggart and Heidi Palalay are definitely something special in a world of similar songs and sounds. This album (General Housekeeping Tips) was certainly a breath of fresh air for me.”
