Artist History
A little history lesson for everyone…Layhill as a band held their first full band practice on January 5th, 2003, however it doesn’t start there. In 1984, ironically enough the same year they were born, Micah Frye (vocals/guitar) and Scott Sussman (guitar) met each other as they lived across the street from each other. Growing up, the two made silly little songs recording them with an old-school toy tape recorder. Many years later they would meet up with Sean Cavanaugh (bass) and Chris McComas (drums) at Blake High School. They would all become good friends and share a common interest in music, especially after Sean spread the love of 311. Micah and Scott would play several times at the BHS’s Open Mic Nights, covering songs by Weezer, not to mention Scott’s Blake High School versions of “The Hannukah Song,” and debuting the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” and a very early version of “Unjustly Accused.” After much talk about forming a band, Sean and Chris picked up a bass and drums, respectively, and Layhill was formed, holding its first practice in Scott’s basement on January 5th, 2003. In their first month, they would pump out 4 original songs before Micah would return to college. After going 4 months with only about 10 practices, including an inspiring 4/20 session, Layhill got back into the swing of things in the summer, making its first studio recording with Styles From The Under (HFS Sports Junkies Intro) and recording “Not Your Day” in mid-July. On July 26th, they would perform their first show in front of 100 people along side Hitch, Slowloader, and Zapotec (w/Mark Loue from The Obsessed). Currently, Layhill is working on new songs and plan to record in late August with Mark Loue. |
