Artist History
A native New Mexican and classically trained singer who started taking professional voice lessons at the age of 12, Kyle prides himself on the musicianship of his voice as well as his guitar technique – a quality so often lacking in the folk/pop music world. Kyle grew up in a musical family and was raised by his parents’ favorite artists as much as he was by them; Sarah Vaughan, Paul Simon, Nina Simone, and Bob Dylan albums, among countless others, were constant family companions. Kyle’s father taught him the early beginnings of his fingerpicking guitar style. Kyle was also trained at the University of Iowa in Acting and at the world renowned Undergraduate Iowa Writers Workshop. Because of this varied background, he is no stranger to the stage or the well-turned phrase and is unfailingly generous and entirely comfortable in his service of performing for others.
Kyle’s personal theory of songwriting is that all parts of the song (the music, voice, and lyrics) should be able to bear the weight of artistic merit when standing alone, but they should also ache with the need to be complimented by each other. Music should seek the truth in its many forms, whether it be an accurate portrayal of a character to be observed or the precise unfolding of a moment between people. His music strives to be accessible to all, and because of this quality Kyle has a dedicated, varied, and quickly growing fan base here in New York City. |

Press Reviews
“Kyle Lange's voice is an antidote for the scenesters, sound-alikes and crooners who stalk the folk scene. Hearing him sing is like watching a man take some fantastic dare." -- Dan Brooks, Artistic Fellow - No Shame Theatre, Performance Space 122
