...Congratulations are in order! Your song did a bang up job in the Qualifying Round, and held its own against some stiff competition. It's been reviewed from folks all over the world, been subjected to raw, unfiltered, scrutiny from people you don't even know...and guess what?....They liked it! The blood, sweat and tears have paid off....Your song made it to the upper echelon of its genre, and now stands a darn good chance of moving on to the next level..."Man With No Country" finished at # 52 in Metal...

ROCK! For some reason that's the first thing that popped into my head. Guess it was short for "These guys ROCK!" Oh yea, and they most definitely do! For their most recent (to my knowledge) self-titled release, Kill By Inches is gonna storm the world and take it on by surprise. I could definitely see this band being the "next big thing to come out of New York." They have that professional bite to their music that grabs you by the hair and pulls you head first right into the mosh pit frenzy, I'm sure these guys create at every live show. How could you not just jump out of your shell and let loose when listening to this type of hard edge metal/rock based music? You'd have to be crazy to be able to stand motionless when listening to this album. I definitely wouldn't be able to do it! There's too much power and adrenaline pumping through each and every song to not be moved by it. Even the more ballad-like songs have that raw powerful edge that will move you in one way or another. I'd recommend this album to those that like the heavier sides of rock and the nu-metalish styles of metal. Definitely a hit on my list!

I don't get why certain bands are proud of their rap-metal style. Last time I checked, being nu-metal was something to be ashamed of. But Kill By Inches refuse to admit that the genre is dead - nor the fact that it should never have been alive. But whatever.
This EP, consisting of four songs, is exactly the type of thing Limp Bizkit would have released if they couldn't afford to pay for an ultra-glossy recording. "Bomb The City", for example, has the singer yelling through a seemingly broken microphone, with clichéd guitar riffs and power-drumming topping it off. "Tear It Up" follows in the same vein, with a stupidly aggressive and violent bent that seems more contrived than truly angry.
But, I must say, KBI are not necessarily bad at what they do. In fact, fans of Slipknot and that whole camp of music will likely find a lot to like in this recording. In fact, even I find "Seven Days" to be somewhat catchy, which I thought was impossible, considering my rap-metal immunity and all. Nonetheless, it still sounds way too unoriginal, and this lack of innovation really detracts from the music itself.
While I can't find much to like in this EP, fans of the nu-metal bands that were popular earlier this year will be sure to find something for them here. Otherwise, this will be of little interest to you.

This trio from NYC has been rocking out since 1993. This 4 song EP is rough and raw, with their song (Bomb The City) which is talking about Graffiti in NYC which as we all know is a big part of life when your a teen. This whole album from the start to the finish is solid heavy beats with crazy lyrics spilled out all over the place. I like this album a lot and I advise all of you to get it...

THE AURAL FIX

Kill By Inches is the long standing Queens, NY groove metal group whose latest four track disc is an affirmation that KBI has the right combination who are ready to blow up and take the world by storm. With their penetrable rap metal crossover sound and anthemic choruses ("Seven Days Til Dawn"), KBI take power groove, rap and metal and fuse them into a voliatile mixture, capable of ripping up a moshpit ("Bomb The City"). Chunks of Pantera, Sevendust, The Step Kings and King's X all thrown together with a distinct NYC flavor is where KBI's sensibilities lie and if you like your chunky metal a bit funky ("Man With No Country"), KBI is the best bet.
THE ISLAND EAR Local CD

Though they may call themselves the “groove-core mutation from New York City,” the best way to describe this trio is loud. Not that they don’t have a reason to be – lineup coups, driving around the tri-state area in an un-air conditioned cargo van, and just plain being a Nu Yawka can do that to you – and besides, we all need to verbalize our frustrations every now and again. Fortunately for Kill by Inches, they’ve enlisted guitarist Pete Sirianni to keep the juices flowin’ and the screaming tight. Be afraid – be very afraid. B

From an interview Jim Sabella of Sabella Sound Studios NY
"I had a band called Kill by Inches here, and those guys have a really heavy, heavy guitar sound. And they use fat strings: 12, 13 gauge and up on the high E string, 58 or 61 gauge on the low E string. Plus, they take a seven-string guitar, and use those strings on a six-string guitar. Cool idea. You have to take the nut and file it down and all. But then they detune, and sometimes they detune it to D or even C. That band in particular is really tuned to their music. They really know what they're doing."

I consider this a brand new release as it came out sometime in December 2001. I believe. KBI, as most call them has been a long-running staple since 1993 and I have been lucky enough to hear this band since the beginning. What amazes me the most is how every release is musically different in terms of styles they have gone through; Thrash/Heavy Metal to what they call nowadays "Groove-Core". My best angle or approach would be Stuck Mojo and Nonpoint with Pantera,Papa Roach and Maryland's Click.. Very tight, aggressive and would be suitable for aggravating up a pit. The vocals are definately assertive and fit in rather well. KBI is another one of those "why aren't they signed" bands and somehow, despite changes in musical direction, can write some great stuff. I know the process of making full-lengths is extensive money-wise but I'm hoping some day KBI will do another one or even take these last couple EP's and combine them, even if it means performing surgery on their songs to fit the style they are most comfortable with.
