    Artist description
Jones’s Lounge It is sometimes from the most unintentional actions that the greatest results occur. In the latter half of 2001, Dax Thieler began to give pulse to his newest vision. Having been the bassist of New Orleans-based act Green Leaf Cult, the time had come for a project that would be first and foremost an outlet of release and enjoyment. He was in fact completely unaware that the end product could fulfill the aspirations of every soul ever to beat on a drum or dream of playing to rabid music lovers screeching for more and more. With several skeletal structures of music in his head, he began to piece the framework together with drummer Jimmy Bower and together they headed to Balance Studio in Mandeville under the skilled hand of Dave Fortman. After several sessions landed a foundation of songs both powerful and melodic, Thieler called upon Exhorder and Floodgate vocalist Kyle Thomas to begin shaping the creations into completed works. Nine songs began to rage to life with such vigor that it was soon apparent that this was no demo tape in progress. The absolute mastery of Fortman’s studio prowess coupled with Thieler’s music gave Thomas a limitless palette for demonstrating his vocal skills. The compilation swayed from aggressively empowering to dark and haunting, but it still seemed incomplete. It was decided that another session was inevitable. With Bower unavailable on a tour, Thieler and Thomas recorded two acoustic-based tracks with Jason Portera manning the drums. There was now a solid mix of peaks and valleys gushing from sweet melody to unearthly heaviness. The recordings were mixed and became a wall of sound so concrete that Thieler and Thomas immediately began forming a lineup that would be capable of delivering the goods onstage. Soilent Green drummer Tommy Buckley was eager to begin working with the two veteran musicians, and though other drummers had either been auditioned or considered, Tommy locked his position from the first measure. With extra vocal help needed due to the amount of harmonies in the material, Thieler switched from bass to guitar and Floodgate bassist Kevin Thomas became the final piece to the puzzle. The chemistry of the Thomas brothers and the firm bass lines Kevin punched out made the transition seamless, and Dax’s vision was finally alive. Taking the name from their own song title, Jones’s Lounge have begun their journey into the realm of performing. And with the four seasoned players all having recording or touring experience, there should be nothing short of greatness to expect from them in the future. Jones’s Lounge is a band to watch in the coming years.
