Artist History
Careem Price a.k.a. Nova was born spring of 1983 in Manhattan.
For the first two years he resided in Yonkers. Then he moved to Freeman Street in the South Bronx, where Hip Hop was born. When he was eight he moved to the North East Bronx, where he witnessed a lot of action by just looking out on his window. He would watch the dope dealers “do their thing”, the hoes “getting busy” and the pimps “walking with their gangster lean”. Nova’s father, being the big time hustler he was back when Nicky Barns was running Harlem, contributed to Nova’s admiration to want to be like “the guy with the shiny drop top car”, by sharing many ghetto street stories with his son.
When in high school, Nova tested the waters and got his hustle on. Nonetheless, he always had a love for music and began writing rhymes. Nova loved putting words together down on paper; and while most kids his age were playing video games, he was playing with a microphone. Nova created a few groups, but unfortunately it never worked out.
One day, Nova and his friend went to BET’s 106 & Park. All they wanted was to get a hug from co-host Free. While downstairs, they hear a producer announce freestyle battle auditions. Nova knew this was his chance. So when it was time for him to do his thing, he did.
Three weeks later, he gets a call that they want him to come back to be on the show. Six straight weeks he wins hands down but on the last week they cheated him--the following next show they retired him as a champion in the hall of fame.
After the show, he was sure to have a recording deal but he signed with a production company that was not able to get him where he wanted to go. So Nova moved on and signed with a management company, Step-In Deep Entertainment and now he is on his way to be the next rap icon. He has been on Artist Direct records and on featured mix tapes all over the state.
Currently, he is working with hit producer Jason Brown who did records for Swizz Beats, Nas, Bars & Hooks, 54th Platoon, Lox, Peter Gunz & Lord Tarqi and many more. Nova’s project is titled “The Rookie of the Year” and it reflects his life going and the title he is soon to hold in this game.
