HISTORY OF
MISSIONARIES FROM THE OUTSIDE
The first “incarnation†of this Russian (Saint-Petersburg) gothic-rock-band was called “PHANTOM OF BERTHA†and existed in the end of the 1990s. The line-up included author of music and lyrics Sergey Laskin (also vocal, guitar) and bassist Roman Gromov. The track “Away from Darkness†can be found at “Edge of the Nightâ€, which is the first official compilation of Russian gothic-oriented music. In 2000, the name “MISSIONARIES FROM THE OUTSIDE†has emerged, and the same lineup has recorded LP-album “Missionaries and Angels†(two years after Sergey Laskin abbreviates this album to EP-album, in order to emphasize only the very best songs). The style of music is gothic rock in the spirit of SISTERS OF MERCY and ROSETTA STONE.
In 2001 Roman Gromov has left the band, and Sergey Laskin without assistance has recorded the single “Phantomâ€, which later became bonus of the first album. In 2002 new second participant of the band has emerged: keyboardist Ivan Rozmainsky from “synth-progâ€-band ROZ VITALIS. This line-up has recorded two EP-albums: “The Road to Heaven†(2002) and “Paradise of Lies†(2003). The new style is gothic-rock/electro-goth, somewhere between SISTERS OF MERCY and ROSETTA STONE, on the one hand, and INTRA VENUS and APOPTYGMA BERZERK, on the other hand.
Now the band prepares new material and plays concerts. The last self-release of the band is the collection of best songs “The Bat. Chronicle of Flight (2000 – 2003)â€
