Artist description From traditional-style tunes with modern themes to acoustic-rock pieces that are as thought-provoking as they are humorous, James Christensen has shown a range that defies easy categorization. Lyrically and melodically driven, his songs peer at familiar themes from unfamiliar angles, attempting to pin down the truthes that hold us all together. Playing acoustic guitar and singing with a mix of anger, empathy, sadness and joy, his performances never fail to satisfy. In the process of recording his first CD, James has honed his performance chops by playing in Boston's subway, the "T," whenever he gets the chance, and at regular gigs. A few of his tunes are always available on his Website for free download. James began writing songs before he learned to play guitar. "I used to sing little melodies, mostly to myself as I walked around," he explains, " finally I went out and bought a guitar, and it took forever to figure out how to play the thing. In fact, I gave up more than once. Because I came to the guitar as a songwriting tool, I haven't bothered to learn many songs. I listen to a lot of music, but I play my own almost exclusively."
