Artist description
Seán has happily made both music and performing his career. His first band involvement of note was a Montreal punk band, "Arthur's Dilemma." When they folded, he and the drummer started "The Pinup's", which featured local musician, Sass Jordon on bass. Seán played lead and shared vocal duties receiving recognition and acclaim for his energetic guitar playing and outstanding showmanship. The band is still remembered as being one of the best to ever come out of the area. Seán went on to play and tour with numerous other Montreal based bands. His style has been compared to Hendrix, Page and Townsend with vocals compared to Bowie and Lennon.
Sean studied art and music at John Abbott College in Montreal, guitar at the Quebec Conservatory of Music and theatre at Concordia University. He performed in a variety of stage productions including "Peer Gynt" by Henrick Ibsen, under Musical Director Trevor Payne and directed by Jean Gascon. Seán was also asked to write songs for this performance. While at Concordia he wrote, produced and performed in a Rock Opera entitled, "The Room" receiving favorable reviews. Seán was also a member of the Foolhouse Theatre Company for eight years, writing and performing songs and skits for their political cabarets, and was Associate Musical Director for, and performed in, their production of "The Rocky Horror Show.”
A founding member of the long-running Montreal radio program, "The Psychotic Hour," which aired on CFMB-AM, CSRG-FM and McGill University's CKUT-FM, his skills were further developed and used in writing, on-air performance as well as in some of the production work.
Seán resides in Oakville and teaches guitar at a local music establishment when not writing and/or performing. For the past eight years, he has been half of the classic rock duo, "The Blackbirds." His services have also been utilized by a variety of other local music groups as lead guitar/vocalist. Sean has played at a variety of charity events, fairs and festivals in Ontario as well as being involved in the 2002 Guinness World Record setting event for longest running internet web music telecast.
Sean traveled to Chicago to perform in the semi-final event of the Jimi Hendrix Guitar Competition. The winner, a local bluesman, Pistol Pete, asked him to jam with him at a gig at the “B.L.U.E.S,” a well-known local venue, an experience and memory he retains with great fondness.
Currently, Sean is focusing more on his music and recently introduced a high-energy solo acoustic show. His ability to interpret songs with an acoustic usually handled by an electric, are gaining immediate fan acceptance and recognition. He has performed at local venues, folk clubs, and has been the feature act in showcases.
His first solo CD, "Soul of a Misfit," a folk/pop/rock undertaking will be officially released in 2003. His skills, interests and capabilities in songwriting and performing hold no boundaries. Often utilized as a studio player, Seán has written music for and performed on local releases and well as providing production and engineering skills.
Sean is working on a variety of projects including a guitar manual utilizing his own teaching method, which is gaining strong acceptance and positive results with his students of all ages. A variety of CD projects are in the works, including the full recording of his rock opera. A full band project is in the works and an East coast trip is being planned for this summer.
