Artist History
Chad Merritt was raised and resides in Southwest Louisiana. He was born in December, loves the winter, and has an obsession with reverb. He virtually is St. Mary's-writing, playing, and recording all his songs. Some kind souls pass through to play shows with Chad, but St. Mary's is ultimately Chad's creation. "It's definately not an ego thing. I just know how I want everything to sound in my head, and part of the joy of making music is getting those sounds. Even if the sounds don't come out how I expected, that's part of the joy-learning." Chad started St. Mary's in 2001 after being involved in a project called, Nellie. A now out of print debut e.p. was released in early 2002 on California indie, Need of Our Cavalcade, as well as the initial release of, "Do You Find Me Wicked?" What inspires Chad? "Nature; the nature of life. The light and darkness involved. Water and fire...the elements, just a general love and glee over creepy things and the creepyness of ordinary things. Oh, and birds." Birds? "Yeah, I'm totally smitten with birds. The whole mythogical aspect of birds, them being messangers. You know, for as beautiful as they are, birds can be very mean too."
