Artist History
Walking For Days is the brainchild of local Athens, GA brothers Daniel and Drew Marler (Both 25 years old.) Since they moved to Athens 4 years ago and performed under the name Butterfly Zen, the band has seen with several different instrumentation's such as the flute, bass, piano, percussion, violin, and other instruments. Though most Athens locals know them best as a dynamic acoustic duo. The band has been recognized for their tight funky grooves, soulful harmonies, and cleaver song arrangements. As of lately, Daniel and Drew have been spotted around "acoustic friendly" venues. Places such as the Athens Brew Pub, the High Hat, Smith's Old Bar, Jackstraws and The BE Here Now. Occasionally the band likes to treat their listeners to a much more energetic approach to their songs by adding the full ensemble (bass, drums, and flute.) This can usually be expected for larger venues such as The 40 Watt of Athens and the Dark Horse Tavern of Atlanta. In June Daniel and Drew completed their first 6-song CD with the help of a few capable friends. Having the help of studio musicians enabled the compositions to be recorded in the true flavor that they were written. This is with the exception of 3 songs that were recorded after the brothers realized that they had about 20 minutes left in their budget. From that point they decided to have a little fun and roll the tape through a few of their acoustic songs. In the autumn Walking For Days intends to push their CD with annoying tenacity. They plan on expanding their performance region further than the Athens, Atlanta , and Carolina areas. Most importantly the tightening down of the full band and fishing for proper management. The CD will be available for request at ALL local radio as well as being distributed for purchase in September. With this being said, Walking For Days embraces all and hopes to see you in the near future. |

Press Reviews
Tue. July 6/Walking For Days/Flagpole Magazine Athens GA/A few years ago, brothers Daniel W. Marler and Drew Marler, both guitarists, started playing music under the band name Butterfly Zen. The gleeful longhairs performed around Athens both as an acoustic duo and with a full electric band. In February 1998, they changed their name to Walking For Days and pressed ahead in the local club scene. The band became known for its soulful vocal harmonies, funky grooves and good vibes on stage.Recently the brothers Marler compiled a 6-song, self titled, EP due out this summer. Three tracks were recorded live, three in the studio. While their most laid-back songs tend to resemble contemporary rock and pop bands like Collective Soul and Third Eye Blind, the more energetic and complex pieces crackle with life. The tricky and dynamic "Dry Life" and "Blue Wishes" are highlights on the disc.Walking For Days will headline this evening of acoustic duos, with Sunday Driver and Hala & Eve opening. /Ballard Lessman |
