Artist History
“The Durlands” ... a new Seattle based rock’n roll songwriting group. The CD, “What’s it to you,” includes vocals by Margie Norman, and Larry Miggitsch (Traffic). Most of the group’s songs are written and performed by Larry Wall, and with a host of co-writers including Margie Norman, Tom Staniford, Denis Correia and Larry Miggitsch.Founding member, Larry Wall was born in 1949 in Duncan B.C. Canada. At age 11, he moved in 1960 to San Jose, California. He bought his first guitar in 1963 from Sears (a Silvertone acoustic for $16.95) and went on to play lead guitar with his high school buddies in a surf-style band called the “Citations”. (Their big claim to fame was in 1965 winning the “Battle of the Bands” contest at the Santa Clara Youth Village “What’s it” Club where the band had a large following of fans). Vocalist Margie Norman was born in San Antonio, Texas and has been rock’n in Seattle for the last 20 years. Bass player and vocalist Larry Miggitsch is formally with a Canadian band called, “Colours” and had some successful Canadian airplay with a single he wrote called “I Love To Party”. He currently lives way up in The Queen Charlotte Islands while maintaining a second home in Sidney, BC. Since moving, to Seattle in 1978, Larry has been a successful publisher of posters and books. In 1980 he helped create the nation’s largest poster distributing company. (He was the guy who helped sell all those Farrah Faucet, Charlie’s Angels, Iron Maiden, Duran Duran and countless blacklight posters.) He is the author of 3 best selling motivational gift books and the publisher/distributor of 8 other best selling books. Titles include: The Road to Success is Always Under Construction, “Achieve Your Dreams” and “Money, Now you have it. Now you don’t. He also created one of the all time best selling posters, called “Guitar Chords”, which is an easy to read instructional chord chart for guitar players and sold over 700,000 copies. Trivia:The Durlands name was taken from the cross-street that the studio and group’s office is on. |
