    Artist History
JAMES SUNDQUISTBIOGRAPHYJames Sundquist has written and/or produced the words and music for several network commercials, one internationally released sound track for a film, two Off-Broadway shows (One a children's musical), and four nationally released record albums.James's network commercials include: several Mattel Toy spots, Woodsie Owl, Keep America Clean, for the Department of Agriculture at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising; Stretch & Sew Fabrics; A&W Root Beer; and Your Local Church Welcomes You, for the National Episcopal Foundation. Through initial funding from NIKE, James produced personalized pace music for runners and walkers, with Karen Dann Sundquist, as one of the composers. This commissioned work led to his founding of the Medical & Sports Music Institute of America, Inc., of which he is President. The Music-In-Sync, Vol I Pace tapes they developed have been endorsed by PREVENTION Magazine and recommended in hundreds of national and international publications such as the WASHINGTON POST. At the institute he has secured such well known accounts as Nordictrack, SONY, Guideposts. He is often engaged as a speaker on the subject of exercise and lifestyle modification. Web site: http://www.yourpacemusic.comJames' first solo record album is entitled Freedom Flight, on Lamb & Lion Records in which he engaged production services from Larry Norman, Paul Stookey, Tom Howard, and Wendell Burton. The title was taken from the theme song, Mountain Lady, which is a parable of the Church being caught up for its final flight to Heaven. Included on this album is his musical interpretation of the Apostle John's vision of the New Jerusalem, entitled Twelve Gates to the City, prophesied in the Book of Revelation. This album along with his vision entitled Caravan and Harvest Song on his In Concert album vicariously transports the listener on a journey to another land through James' skillful use of imagery and allegories.James SundquistBiography cont.Just as James transported listeners with his lyrics, he then decided to transport listeners to another epoch by recording instrumental versions of well-known hymns and carols sung by saints throughout the ages. He proceeded to record them in Jan Hus Presbyterian Church in New York City, where he met his wife Karen, who became music director on the projects. An Anthology of Sacred Carols for Classical Guitar and An Anthology of Sacred Carols for Classical Guitar were subsequently released on EAGLE RECORDS MASTERWORKS. Both albums aired on National Public Radio as part of two documentaries James wrote the history of Christmas Carols and Hymns. His Christmas album was nominated for a Grammy and later licensed to IBM Corp. as a multimedia CD-ROM. His hymn's guitar works and documentary won the National Wilbur Award.. These two instrumental works are at times ferocious; at times fragile and delicate. We invite you to hear excerpts from these works on his web site: http://jamessundquist.iuma.comJames & Karen hope to release AN ANTHOLOGY OF SACRED CAROLS FOR CLASSICAL GUITAR, VOLUME II in the near future. James has been working on it for fifteen years. They also hope to complete an album of Scriptures they have set to music. They also eventually hope to tour Russia with their concert ministry .Hear James & Karen Sundquist together in concert!
