Artist description If swillin hot whiskey and warm beer in the pounding heat of summer seems sexy to you - you NEED the Snake Charmers brand of salt-in-the-wound garage-punk-n-roll! The quartet, which originated in New York City in late 1995, immediately embarked on the fast track to sleaze rock fame. Their sound merges all that hellfire about late 80s and early 90s rock bands like Guns n' Roses and older statesmen like Motorhead with all things jagged and torn in bands like The Hookers and Electric Frankenstein. Snake Charmers are a hot, raw injection of amped up rock n' roll in the waning alt-rock lameness that is mainstream radio and MTV today. The Snakes instantly took their show on the road playing with bands like the Candy Snatchers, Trick Babys, Turbo ACs, D-Generation, Pristeens, B-Movie Rats, The Bellrays and The Hookers. They released their first 7 in October, 1996, entitled The Gorgon, to rave reviews in scene-defining mags like The Thing, Flipside and Lo-fi. In 1997 Joe Truck , front man and legendary tattoo artist (having inked the likes of Nashville Pussy, Zeke, Hookers, Bulemics, Humpers, Red Aunts and many others), moved the band to California and started up Shrunken Head Records. The first release on the label was a Snake Charmers 7" entitled Nuthin' For You. Next up Joe started work on both a V/A comp called Heads Will Roll (out August 1999) featuring his pals in Nashville Pussy, Zeke, B-Movie Rats plus bands like the Quadrajets, Jack Saints and the Bobbyteens as well as working 7s for The B-Movie Rats and The Weaklings. In July of 1999 Victory Records began work on a V/A double comp put together by Electric Frankenstein which will feature a track by the Snake Charmers. Then, the newly founded Sonic Tone label offered the Snakes a deal and also offered to put out the other planned Shrunken Head releases. A label deal was born!The Snake Charmers debut full length, Rock ÔN Roll Deathwish(produced/engineered by Earle Mankey - credits include The Cramps, Concrete Blond and The Dickies), drives home all things nasty, greased and raucous. Break out the Night Train and crank this sucker to elev-uhn. Songs like Thunder Alley, Wired and Ass Out, interspersed with sound bites from such God-awful big screen wonders such as Cafe Flesh, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Videodrome and even the Little Rascals will make you throw caution to the wind and guzzle, baby, guzzle!
