Artist description
From '94 Ottodix work on a sound straddling harmony and avantguarde. Music that seeped through the balance of pop. Zannier's passionate and decadent music and lyrics melt with Rubazer's smooth voice into a crystal project of melodies and arrangements. Their cd “Corpomacchina” is a mirror of this work, straddling electropop and romantic goth as well as an energetic live set alternating ballades and unrelenting rhythms.

Artist History
1994 The band is founded by Alessandro Zannier (formerly drummer, now on keyboards and backing vocals and author of the lyrics and music), Carlo Rubazer on vocals and bass and Antonio Massari on guitar. After some hunting around, the band then enrols Marco Prizzon on keyboards to complete the quartet. They immediately make it to the final of Ritmi Globali ‘94, but after an evening hampered by bad luck, and despite the prestigious vote of Elio (from Elio e le Storie Tese), success is hard coming.
1995 The band again makes it into the top ten finalists at Ritmi Globali ’95, this time winning jointly with Antinomia (later Estasia) and Estra and also record for the compilation album at the prestigious Villa Condulmer studios. An intense sequence of live dates in the Treviso and Padua areas follows.
1996 The first self-produced demo tape, entitled ASSEMBLAGE is promoted on numerous local radio stations with interviews and guest appearances, and the recording remains representative of the Dark-Pop genre that the band has been playing up to this point. The group then decides for a strong change in direction and Ottodix are reinvented along electronic-minimal lines, with Alessandro abandoning acoustic percussion to move to second keyboards and second vocals.
1997 This year sees three major events. Ottodix win the Rock Contest at Vinile di Ros (Vicenza). Antonio decides to leave first his role as guitarist and then to leave the band altogether. The band wins the prestigious Serafin award which, despite its modest scale, actually offers a cash prize (a singularly rare bonus). The track T.T.F.T. is included in the Rock Contest ’97 compilation.
1998 The grand finale of the national competition Indipendenti ’98 (organised by the Rome based magazine Faremusica) sees Ottodix performing in Sicily. The tracks presented are all in Italian, the sound is a contagious electronic pop of shamelessly Depeche Mode inspiration but far from being run-of-the-mill plagiarism. The band is included in the first Italian multimedia compilation Sonicrocket with the track Donna di Pixel.
1999 This is an important year for the band on a creative level. They compose some of their best tracks to date which are recorded on the self-produced CD AUTOVIRUS, a real take-off point for the sound and image of the band as a whole. A series of live dates are organised in Hungary where the band performs at an evening organised by the Budapest Depeche Mode fan club (what a coincidence!) at the Petofi Csarnok, a theatre which has hosted artists of the calibre of Massive Attack, Dire Straits and Moby. This gives the band a considerable boost both in terms of morale and in terms of material (or physical?) satisfaction.
2000 After the Hungarian parenthesis and a relative limited edition video (with footage of the performances and back-stage on the mini-tour) entitled OVUNQUE SIA, the band self-produces another CD, ANESTESIA, which is followed up by a series of promotional concerts. After an evening sharing a stage with Dr. Livingstone and another couple of dates in Hungary, the trio begins corresponding with Delta V who, after hearing ANESTESIA entrust Ottodix with opening some of their Summer concert dates. The year closes with an evening at the Leoncavallo in Milan and another appearance, this time as guest artists, at the legendary Ritmi Globali Europei 2000.
2001 The band starts work on material for their first official album. The job is a long and meticulous one from the start, given the scope of the project and the richness of the sound. The work interrupts live performances for a year. In the meantime, the band’s official web site, www.ottodix.it comes on line while Alessandro takes advantage of a creative rest imposed by recording to write and test the SERGEJ project, a pseudonym for a future parallel role as an electronic author.
2002 The band, now bereft of Marco Prizzon, returns to live performance with a new keyboard player, Mauro Franceschini, opening two concert dates for Delta V. On the 27th of July, a Live Party kicks of the travelling exhibition-project NEWTON, a photographic exhibition staged around graphics work for the new CD which also includes original installations and sculptures by Alessandro Zannier conceived and photographed for the CD. Among the creations on display is the alien NEWTON, a mascot and leitmotif for the new album.
2003 The CD CORPOMACCHINA (alma music / Brusegan NMC) is released thanks to an agreement reached with the Brusegan NMC label in Mestre (Venice), a meeting of light synth-pop and dark-romantic ambience in the best (so far) Ottodix style.
