Artist History
Dembo Jobarteh was born in Niani Kayai, The Gambia. As a member of a well known griot family he has been playing kora and singing since childhood. After finishing his musical training as a griot, he went to Dakar (Senegal). There he spend a few years working as an entertainer. Since 2001 he has his own music school, Gambian Griot. Here he records his songs on mini disc. The discs are later edited and mastered in The Netherlands. By joining mp3.com he hopes to find a world wide audience for The Gambia's traditonal music. |
