Artist description
The voice of the pensive singer/songwriter is
often too soft in todays music world.
Rachel Solomon is determined to silence that
assumption. Rachel is the up-and-coming young
songwriter to keep your eyes and ears on. With
her often rhythmic, driving piano style and
contemplative lyrics, she often refers to her
genre of her music as “punk piano”. She lists
Duncan Sheik, Billy Joel, Rufus Wainwright, and
Paula Cole as her biggest songwriting influences.
Rachel’s music has touched audiences from all
walks of life, and she has performed her own
music and others’ at places such as Antone’s,
The Vibe, Ruta Maya Headquarters, and Central
Market Westgate in her hometown of Austin, Tx,
All Asia Caf in Cambridge, MA, and Emily’s,
Herrell’s, The Paradise Lounge, Middle East Corner and Downstiars,
The Kirkland Cafe, and The Kendall Cafe in Boston.
In April/May of 2003, she recorded a three-track
demo with fellow Berklee students, performing
and engineering/producing. Rachel’s trio (originally
with Chris Griffiths
on electric bass of Jones One and Portrait of the
Artist, and Darcy Macrae on drums of Chubby Rain,
Downstroke, and the Michael Pickett Blues Band) was
formed in 2003 and has been actively performing
around the Boston-Metro at venues such as The
Kendall Caf, All Asia Caf, The Kirkland Cafe,
Middle East Corner, and the Virgin
Megastore. |

Artist History
Growing up in a musical family, Rachel began
classical piano training at the age of 6. She
learned quickly and was eventually able to play
songs and melodies by ear. Her love for popular
and rock music had always been big, and after
picking up the alto saxophone at age 9, jazz
music took Rachel by storm. She gradually began
to apply her knowledge of jazz to the piano as
well. She wrote her first popular song when she
was 13, and over the next several years, the songs
Rachel generated progressed to higher and higher
levels of uniqueness and creativity. It was soon
clear that she wanted to pursue a career in
songwriting. Still, she continued with classical
piano through high school, topping off her classical
piano career with a performance with the Austin
Symphony Orchestra at age 17. After graduating,
Rachel immediately took what she saw as the next
step in her career and is currently a student at
the Berklee College of Music in Boston. |
