Artist History
On By Seven grew from the early work of Jeff Taylor, Johnathan Spell, and Jessica Draeger. These three formed Small Town Portrait in Newberry, S.C. during the summer of 2001. As Small Town Portrait, the trio recorded the Plate of Pudding Demos; an acoustic collection of five originals that were written during the first summer together. As the upcoming college year began Jeff chose to attend college in Tennessee. In the mean time Johnathan and Jessica continued to write and search for a drummer and a replacement guitar player. Patrick Hulon joined Johnathan and Jessica in early 2002 to form On By Seven. With Patrick in place the search continued for a guitar player until one evening at a local open mic Johnathan happened across Bryan Stockman. Bryan had known of the band back when they were Small Town Portrait and showed interest in joining the band. After one audition the others felt that Bryan fit the groove, and with that On By Seven was complete.
On By Seven absorbed all of the original material that was written during the Small Town Portrait period, and continued writing as they grew. With several shows behind them, OB7 was working toward recording a new disk with the new material that had been written since the Plate of Pudding Demos. The Fall of 2002 brought the loss of Jessica Draeger, the founding vocalist. After this, OB7 continued on as a three piece, and the vocal duties are now shared evenly among the guys.
