Artist History LeAL ReY - the loyal one – an American singer/songwriter of Mexican descent, was born in the summer of 1981 in multi-cultural downtown Los Angeles. Early on, while singing in a local church choir, he began writing poetry and short stories. At the age of 10, he and his parents moved to Mexico where in the 7th grade, he began to learn to play the guitar and eventually joined a musical ensemble that recorded an album of traditional Spanish songs. Back in the U.S. at the age of 14, LeAL joined his high school choir, was in several plays and began to write songs. Upon graduation and after two years of attending Loyola Marymount University, he secured an internship at the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Through the academy, he met a producer who miraculously shared his same passion and dream. After spending two hours on the phone with Leon Rafael of the Turn, and a meeting that same day, it was their mutual vision and unapologetic ambition that sparked their entrusting friendship from the outset. The songs resulting from this collaboration contain all the requirements of hits; unforgettable melodies, a unique sound brought about by a fusion of the Turn’s signature wall of flamenco guitars and electric guitar riffs inspired by Leal’s love of rock n’ roll, and his poetic yet universal approach to lyrics. Potentially the first male Mexican-American pop star since Ritchie Valens, LeAL ReY is set to become one of the greater American pop artists of this generation. . . one who will remain loyal to both his roots and his mission to succeed.
