    Artist History
Bruce Hubbard Bruce Hubbard started writing music and performing live at the age of 16, in St. Petersburg, FL. His first stage experiences were performing in musicals and in local & state competitions. It was a collection of old LP’s that had been collecting dust on the front porch of his childhood home that opened his eyes to Rock N’ Roll. He was heavily influenced early on by bands like The Beatles, The Who, Boston and Led Zeppelin. But... his career in music really began to take shape in 1993 at Shenandoah University, where he studied voice, music theory and piano. This is also where he formed his first band “3lb Universe”. Based on the encouragement of the students and staff at the University the band moved from the relative obscurity of Winchester, VA to Philadelphia, the “City of Brotherly Love”, where they met producer / manager Bob Squires Jr. and Scott & Brian Bricklin, who recorded the band's first CD titled “Open” at Martin's Dam studios. The disc was released in 1995 on Muckraker Records and distributed by Redemption Records (www.redemption.com). With the CD, the band achieved modest success on local and regional radio stations like WMMR, WXPN and WDRE, as well as national success on college radio. The band toured extensively throughout the region from Connecticut to Virginia, breaking attendance records at local clubs. However, the youth and inexperience of the band would eventually lead to its demise. After a short hiatus in Florida, Bruce set his eyes on New York City where he discovered the power of Blues and Jazz that can only be found in the world’s melting pot. This is also where he formed the band “Strain” in 1996. Strain would be an outlet for Bruce’s desire to write music in the vein of his early influences. Strain played some 265 shows in its short 1 yr life. Bruce then went on to form “The Gene Pool”, which was a power pop rock band blending Bruce’s classic rock influences with modern rock and pop. It was through this band where he met producer Mike Barile of Purple Light Productions. This partnership would lead to Bruce Hubbard’s first solo recording entitled “Cheap China Dreams”. This would be the culmination of years of songwriting and give him an outlet for all of the influences he’s gathered over his life. This CD features Bruce’s love of Blues, Rock n Roll and Pop in a powerful collection of songs that are sure to provoke the listener’s emotions as well as define Bruce Hubbard as a relevant artist and fixture in the national music community.
