Artist description
Four lads who all share a passion for a UK style of music, a lust for writing original material, and performing before a crowd, make up the Mood. Four boys: Matthew McLeod, Matthew Kliewer (Matty K), Trevor-James Kube (TJ), and Jeffrey Lewis merge individual emotions and life experiences into one band, one voice that makes up the lifeline that is the Mood.
Matthew McLeod has spent most of his life quietly songwriting and recording in private projects, recently deciding to throw himself into the music scene. Having been inspired by the likes of John Lennon, Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley and Roger Waters, Matthew brings his own fresh blend of British-influenced vocals and music to the Mood.
Previous to the Mood, Matty K had played in numerous bands in the Calgary area. Hosting "open jam" events and often being called on to assist in songwriting projects, he wanted to be a part of a steady group of dedicated musicians that would allow a solid base for songwriting. Having developed a strong following in Odyssey with Trevor-James Kube, Matty was able to bring his unique guitar tones to a new level through the Mood.
Drummer Trevor-James Kube was known in Calgary as a solid drummer from acts such as Odyssey, the Colorfield, and the Aqua-Sinjels. All three acts played all over Calgary in venues like the Night Gallery and the Ship and Anchor Pub. The Colorfield became a club favourite at the infamous Ship and Anchor Pub, Odyssey had the #1 rated independent music website in Canada in 2002, and the Aqua-Sinjels received top-ten status on the university radio station CJSW (90.9 FM).
Ads were placed all over the country looking for someone with the same inspirations and dedication as the rest of the band, but it was a friend that would recommend seasoned player Jeffrey Lewis to Matty K. Well experienced in the music industry as the bass guitar player in Plad and North Chapter, Jeffrey's experience brought him to the legendary CBJB's in New York, and doing session work on countless projects. He was quickly able to pick up on the direction that the Mood was taking, and it didn't take long for Jeff to realize that he wanted to do more than session work with the Mood, he became the fourth and final member.
The Mood was originally a tattoo on TJ's arm. With the rapid success of songwriting in this project, TJ felt at last comfortable to volunteer the name, and the name suited the direction of the band, the sound and the feel.
The band released the "Honest Lies" EP on Friday April 18th and sold over 100 copies by the end of the weekend to devoted fans of each musician and new listeners all over the Calgary area. After receiving partial funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the members of the Mood are preparing to record their debut full-length album in July 2003. |
