Artist description
The Marfa Mystery Lights of New York City have taken their name from a west Texas phenomenon that appears in the night sky and has yet to be explained by modern science. Similarly, their brand of music is not easily categorized. Taking cues from such varied artists as the Faces, Wilco, Big Star, the Feelies, and Television, MML creates a unique style of modern music that sublimely balances alt.country and 70s rock-and-roll. Singer and guitarist Dave Ebert (think: Sean Eden) spins tales of late night debauchery, the regret of the next day, and the open road with the authority of a New York bartender-cum-songwriter, while the fluidity of Andre Balazs bass playing grounds and expands the melody lines of guitar and vocal. Ex-Gurgle percussionist Luke Bifuclo rounds out the trio with a style that marries Keith Moon to Doug Clifford. |
