Artist History
Jennifer is a natural-born performer. Involved in dance recitals, choir ensembles and theater since her early childhood, she started writing songs at 13. After traveling the states and parts of Europe, Jennifer relocated to Los Angeles. Her talent as a singer/songwriter has rippled throughout the local music scene creating an enormous fan base of admirers. With her unique sound, she rivals the most popular female musical acts in today’s alternative market.
Her piano playing and vocal melodies are decorated with an ethereal flow that blossoms with great velocity at each chorus, bringing the audience on a journey.
As Jennifer’s list of credits continues to grow, including airplay on radio and national television, two demo deals with Warner Brothers and experience working with Grammy-Award-Winning producer Barry Goldberg (“When A Man Loves A Woman”), as well as Peter Distefano (Porno For Pyros), she sees an untouched market of listeners craving songs that promise hope for the beautiful life.
Some of Jennifer’s most memorable performances include sharing the stage with distinguished acts throughout the west coast including Train (“Drops of Jupiter”) and Five For Fighting. She was commissioned to write and perform music for the play “Women Speak” and continues to play at Hollywood’s hippest spots: THE HOUSE OF BLUES (Sunset Strip), THE SUNSET ROOM, KEY CLUB, THE KNITTING FACTORY, and Santa Monica’s 14 BELOW.
Having just finished her self-produced demo and recently chosen by Music Connection as one of the top 100 unsigned artists in Los Angeles, Jennifer is capturing the attention of record labels, publishers and filmmakers who wish to promote a strong female resurgence within the entertainment industry for both the ever-changing male and female perspective.

Press Reviews
Quite good confessional female angst bluesy pop eccentricity sung in a great, powerful,
deep throaty soul/gospel influenced voice. Ms. Appelquist brings to mind most
immediately Marianne Faithfull, Laura Nyro, the quieter side of Patti Smith or
one could consider her to be somewhere in between a female equivalent of a cross
between Tom Waits and the late Steve Marriott ( " A Month of Sundays" cries
out for vintage UK blues-rock type backing a la Small Faces/Humble Pie/etc. ) or Certainly one can detect even more vintage
influences ; Holliday, Simone, Springfield, even Dietrich and Lenya, if one listens
hard enough. Accompanied only by a piano, Ms. Appelquist packs an incredible
emotional power in her work, crossing any number of musical barriers and doing
quite well in all of them, from cabaret-jazz to post-whatever hard rock. In the
current musical environment, one could easily imagine her competing with the
Amos/PJ Harvey feminine pain and suffering confessional singer-songwriters,
Norah Jones/Diana Krall pop-jazz, or White Stripes blues-rock primitivism all
at once. Smashing these artificial barriers is the mark of a great artist. As one of
Southern California's great undiscovered secrets. Ms. Appelquist displays a
great deal of promise and I eagerly await hearing more of her work.

Honest, heartfelt and pure - simple in its essence and exciting in its revelations.
