    Artist description
Omar J. Cayasso a.k.a. electrix is a local veteran musician living in Los Angeles. Born in Costa Rica, he migrated to the cold streets of Brooklyn, N.Y. in his early teens. He attended High School of Art & Design in Manhattan. Omar still considers New York his Alma Mater. Brooklyn was the place where his formative musical years gave way to his dexterous electric, rock/jazzy guitar fingers under the tutelage of the legendary guitar master and recording artist James "Blood" Ulmer --- once a member of Ornette Coleman band entourage. electrix" guitar defines the style of the band as it weaves in and out of the music and in between the instruments; no doubt, a unique guitar playing style whose time has come. Not many play the "busy" guitar like electrix and his teacher/mentor. They liberate the guitar from its rigid rhythmic structure to Harmolodically penetrate in whatever musical space the sound wishes to occupy. Damn the torpedoes of diatonic European Classical sets of rules! The music approaches African sensibility where rhythm and intuitive, improvisational creativeness predominates. One needs only to hear Ornette Coleman"s Prime Time band to hear the continuing lineage, legacy in electricSon. Of course, none of the artists mentioned play down to its audience. You either get it or not, dig? electrix currently composes Neo-Fusion and Electronica Electro-Funk music.

    Artist History
ElectricSon was founded with the intent of having a band that was its own entity and would continue to exist regardless of what members came and left, as long as the pivoting electrix keeps it financed. Originally the band formed as a duo in the Spring of 1991 as an electronic duo in the city of Encino (with a nostalgic return to the past, electrix has finished compiling his Electronica Electro/Funk tunes that will be featured on a different site on MP3 soon. Keep your ears open!). With only electronic drums and electric/synth guitar, James Payfer and electrix, respectively, set out to define the band. It was called Electric Son Unit. The root Son means "Sound," "Tune." It is also a Cuban word for 'musical ensemble.' Why not? What is music but a set of organized sounds! The band became a trio with the consecutive addition of several bass players, at which point, the style began to change from Electronic/Rock to Jazz/Rock. After further transFusion the band evolved to a quartet and the style became the one heard on the MP3s --- Neo-Fusion (Jazz/Rock/Funk blend). No doubt, the trend towards further electricSon evolution continues into the vast musical unknown that awaits it. In the meantime, we have captured a still-shot of where it was at the moment. Like the Heisenberg "Uncertainty Principle," the Son is waiting for the observer to influence and capture the moment in time then continue its own merry way, as if existing in two places at the same time. They have had radio airplay (KPFK 97.5) as well as Net streams in underground stations.
