Artist description
Another one-man band. I like it this way, everything just like I want it, just like I pictured it before. Yes, I truly enjoy my own company, which is also the reason why I don't bother to find a girlfriend. |

Artist History
Sad mr. Hilarious' original name was Pamfilius, which his mother named him. His mother was Gertrude, the female sicrus-boss. Pamfilius being a half-cast, since his fahter was pure clown, had no hopes of taking over the circus after his mother passed away, and lay out on his own after years of cakes and banana-peel. But he discovered that the world wasn't really to much to miss. The story of Pamfilius a.k.a. Sad mr. Hilarious, is a changing story. Sometimes he dies, sometimes he loves, sometime he hates. The only thing he knows for sure, is that happiness is a temporary pleasure, even for a clown. This is why mr. Hilarious is Sad mr. Hilarious. He cries a lot. He may have problems sleeping. But the entertainer is always present behind banapeel and cakes. Sad. mr. Hilarious awakes. The earth trembles and shakes, but that's not his deed. That's just the world, and therefore he trembles with us. He knows us. We know him. He is us. Sad mr. Hilarious. |

Press Reviews
I can definitely hear the Radiohead/Sigur Rós/Coldplay/etc similarities, but Pamfilius does this kind of music very well, bringing their own originality to it. 'Sad Mr Hilarious' is certainly an appropriate title; the music is a combination of wry humor and tender seriousness that frequently blurs the lines between the two. There are some unexpected elements from polka, klezmer, baroque, and other classical styles incorporated into the songs that some will enjoy and others will find pretentious. Personally, I find it amusing, like a 70's prog rock band transported to the new millenium, given a crateload of modern music technology, and forced to perform at a medieval folk festival, making the music a lot more fun than any of their influences. That's a good thing. Most of their contemporaries take themselves far too seriously. You'd never hear Radiohead do a song like "Comin' to Gettcha": a playful indie baroque rock ditty that is certainly unique if not entirely successful. Pamfilius is working to push the boundaries in a genre that is often rather narrow and confining. For that I applaud them with both hands.
How's that phaser working out? Maybe you could give it a break and go back to flippin' burgers for a living. Didn't know their was any music gayer than the Bing Crosby/David Bowie Christmas album, but now I know there is!
Fell asleep!
Pamfilius Is the True Way
I was expecting to be impressed, but my what I was instead was closer to demon possession. This is really really really really really really really really fucking good. GODDAMN, "Comin to Getcha" is fucking remarkable. It's one continuous eargasm featuring lollipops and stunguns. It's *just elusive enough* too...as soon as my ears lock onto it's shapes and begins predicting chords, there's a metering change, then as soon as I'm expecting the metering change, something has replaced it that sounds like I was expecting it in retrospect. Pamfilius should refraim from any activities that don't involve recording more music. The world cannot afford to have ideas such as these buried with their respective owners. I don't want to admit it, but Envy glares at me like a relative whom I've been ignoring..." no questions asked" is another masterpiece. I think I read somewhere that someone compared Pamfilius to Radiohead. I don't really listen to Radiohead, but other than a few superficial similarities I don't make that connection. So for me at least my personal taste is ironclad proof that you're doing something very original and unusual...
