Artist description
Whoever coined the saying “opposites attract” probably would have enjoyed listening to the music of The Changes. No one told this band that their songs couldn't combine Beatles-esque melodies, chord progressions straight out of a jazz composition, and the raw power of punk and rock and roll; or if someone told them, they weren’t listening. No Changes song is complete until it sounds like nothing else out there.

Artist History
The Changes were created in Chicago in the early part of 2002. With a vast pedigree of musical experience between them, guitarist Dave Rothblatt and drummer Jonny Basofin merged their talents with singer/songwriter/guitarist Darren Spitzer. Holing themselves up in a north-side practice space, the three musicians went on a creative binge. Nearly a month after their inception, the group had a base of original songs and a style all their own. Years spent examining the intellectual challenges of classical and folk, the adventure of jazz and new wave, and the sadness of country and blues made each band member a musical explorer in his own right. With these combined influences, The Changes' sound is wholly original, yet easily familiar at the same time.
A series of successful gigs around the city followed and, six months later, the group finally found its permanent bassist in Rob Kallick. With their lineup in place, The Changes continued to hone their sound, which is captured on their demo, recorded by engineer Jeremy Lemos, a veteran of the Chicago music scene who has worked with Wilco, Sonic Youth and Stereolab.
The Changes plan to continue doing just as their name suggests ― constantly moving into new musical territory, dictated by their enthusiasm and ideas.
