Artist description
Through Warped Window Chaos started years ago as an abstract idea. At a basic level, its individual reality, individual awareness, and individual existence. It means simply that what all men see is not the world, nor even a simple reflection, but a warped chaos brought to us by a complicated structure of nodes, chemical pathways, and neurons. Warped does not mean in this sense deformed or imperfect. Our window to the universe is quite necessarily efficient. But the things we oppose upon it, colors, causality, meaning - these are merely methods the brain uses to create a functionable perception. Our cognitive focal point is as an individual who must understand something unfathomable larger than itself. A view of the universe is never the universe, but a creation of it. This rendering must overcome one huge obstacle. The universe is a million times larger than the machinery that must encompass it. Our reality, our very perception is this machinery, and no matter how efficient it is never the universe itself. We are peering through warped window chaos. We can be aware of this, aided by nature's most precious gift to us - awareness, or put simply - the warped window's ability to turn and look at itself. Sometimes when the world is quiet, its almost possible to see what we think is behind this window. The entity behind the window seems at the same time more, the same, and less than oneself. But always the picture of self is illusive and we must remain, as the warped window implies, amidst a room of carnival house mirrors with no reliable view of ourselves, and thus no reliable view of who's turning the mirror, and ultimately turning it on itself. The self is the true warped window chaos, the thinking self, the self that asks who am I and why am I here. Is it so surprising then, the great difficulty in finding answers to meanings and phrases that are not the universe's, but the individual's. Even so, keep looking… |
