Press Reviews
My sympathies went out to The Cartel who, at approximately 126 members, had to be shoehorned into position. Despite their relative inexperience, this is a band that quite correctly puts their emphasis on having a good time. Ska with swing and rock undertones is their calling card, even hauling out the King Kong of accordions to drive home the polka-party approach. If the thought of yet another ska band makes you want to grab the first rudeboy you find and take him for a ride down to the river (with a rock and a burlap sack), you might want to reconsider here. Much of the suave ska aesthetic is tempered by their female lead, whose unique voice and sexy schoolgirl demeanour brings the band out of the boys’ club. I like.
