Press Reviews
STONE
This is not a press release.
This is a declaration of war.
War on mediocrity.
War on a complacent Dublin music scene.
War on the endless number of jumped-up cabaret acts and moaning Indie dross that clutters the Irish music scene today.
So who are the front-line troops?
Stone are Jamie ‘Jay’ Begley (vocals), his brother Michael (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Dave Travers (Lead Guitar) , Paul Hare (bass) and Bernie ‘rhymes with’ Kearney (drums).
Stone were formed in early 1998, and through a couple of line-up changes and constant gigging have emerged with a truly original, melodic, radio-friendly sound.
Just think of all the greatest bands of the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s infused with a bit of ‘90’s balls and a voice that would have Otis Redding reaching for the bottle if he wasn’t already dead and an alcoholic.
Their playing schedule has taken them to city venues such as Eamonn Doran’s, Whelans, The Sallynoggin Inn and regular nights at the Bridge, together with numerous pubs and clubs in the South-East Dublin area. Last summer, the lads spent ten weeks entertaining the holidaying hoards in Lanzarote, a stint which threatened to re-ignite the dormant volcanic foundations of this previously pleasant and placid island.
The secret to Stone’s sound lies in Jamie’s astounding voice, Michael's classic song-writing style, Dave's inspirational lead work and a rhythm section tighter than a gnat’s arse..
So that’s Stone then.
Class Act.
