    Artist History
The only son of singer/songwriter Steve Young (“Seven Bridges Road” & “Lonesome, On‘ry, and Mean”) and songwriter Terrye Newkirk (“Come Home, Daddy” & “My Oklahoma”), Jubal Lee Young was also influenced by his parents' musically amazing circle of friends – a veritable Who‘s Who of legendary ‘70’s and ‘80’s Southern Folk, Bluegrass, and Country artists. Combining these sources with a wide range of other inspirations, Jubal crafts a sound that stands alone – lowdown blues meets high lonesome wail. “My influences run the gamut. I certainly grew up listening to the best of the best of the folk and country, bluegrass and blues, outlaw and underground music. But as I grew up, I developed a taste for rock and roll. First, I discovered my mother's vast collection of 45s from the 50's and 60's: Elvis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Jan and Dean, the Stones, the Isley Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis, and so much more. Then... I found the Beatles ‘Sgt. Pepper’. I fell in love with the Fab 4. That eventually led me to a brief phase during which I was listening to the rock of the day. Bands like AC/DC, Rush, Boston, the Eagles, Aerosmith were all at their prime. At about 12 I got serious about wanting to play guitar. At that point I discovered Hendrix and Clapton. Again, that led to another stint with the modern stuff: Kiss (post makeup), Def Leppard, Ronnie James Dio, and many more In high school, I discovered some older stuff again. Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Pink Floyd, and Dire Straits. Still some of my all time favorites. I spent a lot of years in bands wishing we WERE Pink Floyd. In a lot of ways, my exposure to music was a microcosm of the actual evolution. But, as most things do, it started coming full circle. Right around my late 20's, I started getting moved by the idea of the family tradition. I began to go back again and study my father's earlier works. That got me interested in what HIS musical influences were. I went back to the old country, gospel, bluegrass, mountain music, and blues. I've spent the last couple of years really focusing on those styles. But those rock roots are still in there. I'm not entirely sure where this is going... we‘ll see.” Jubal Lee Young has assembled a smoking power trio consisting of veteran bassist Ed Cain and drummer John Vaughn, both from Macon, Georgia. With such oddities as a Tom T. Hall cover as it may have been played by Jimi Hendrix, they are re-blazing new trails over long forgotten, well-worn paths. It’s so unlike anything you have ever heard, yet so familiar. If it’s country, Nashville suddenly grew a pair. If it’s rock, we are witnessing the long awaited rebirth of true Southern Rock. – F.
