Artist description
Jack molton distortion is a stonerrock band from Amsterdam/Alkmaar, The Netherlands. According to a reviewer "the quality of this band with international appeal is beyond doubt". Dirty guitar riffs and pumping bass & drums are the foundations of a sometimes funky, sometimes grungy sound with great vocals. |

Artist History
Robert and Jean-Paul, drum 'n bass, have been playing together since 1983. With Yoichi Hara ("swinging wave-rock", '83-'88) they played gigs opening for Claw Boys Claw and they made one album. With a new singer, Martijn, they formed Ballad Of A Thin Man ('88-'92). They made "powerful rock, that sounds a bit like The Cult.", according to a review of their only release, a 7" single. In 1992 Wiebe joined the band as the new guitarist, and Gisburns were born. They mostly played student parties, squats and small stages. In 1993 they won local contest and became third in the final of "Noord-Hollands Glorie" in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. They made some demo's and one CD. According to a review "their music is made of sturdy rock with a prominent role for the singer, who sometimes also plays guitar solos with an intensity and feedback like Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr". During their best years ('94-'95) they played gigs in respectable venues in Amsterdam like Melkweg, the Arena and Paradiso. On October 5, 1997 the Gisburns played Atlantis, Alkmaar with Sil Baak of Ripping Ohio standing in for Martijn, who had already been away for some months travelling. Sometime later Sil became a permanent member, and they changed their name to jack molton distortion. So far the band has released two CD's: canned fish (1998) and honey drip (1999). |
